I think you should not leave this topic here. You talked about the Independent, assertive vedic woman, who basically was devoid of material desires. Just like Shakuntla.<br />What about Men? From Rama, Dushyanta, Ravana to Bheeshma......There is this insecurity which looms large.It is prominent all across the texts.Take Karna for Eg. Pandu of course was a classic case.
